Hello, my name is Alex. It’s a pleasure to meet you.
Let me tell you a bit about my story.
I have worked as a journalist, strategic planner, communications advisor, researcher, writer, social media manager, events planner and promotional representative over the last decade or so. In fact, during that time, I have lived in 10 different cities and three different countries, on three different continents.
In 2016, after living in Canada for most of my life, I decided to quit my full-time job as a on-air television reporter to move to Georgetown, Guyana to directly work with local NGOs to expand their reach. In this job, I learned about how important not only knowing your own organization’s goals and messages are, but also knowing your audience and their motivations. During my time in Guyana, I successfully managed the launch of a brand new youth program from scratch and saw it expand to five different schools and about 150 students.
This led me to realize that I want to spend my life working internationally, so I decided to return to school to pursue my master’s degree.
I am now back in Canada, after spending a year pursuing a Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London – School of Oriental and African Studies. Throughout this amazing year, I developed skills in mediation, negotiation and crisis management, and honed my speech-writing skills. I also had the opportunity to be a delegate to conferences and workshops in Prague, Czech Republic; Geneva, Switzerland; New York, USA; Sussex, UK; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
I hold a Bachelor of Journalism with Honours from Ryerson University in Toronto. I have worked as a staff reporter for Metro News, Global News, The Toronto Star and The Montreal Gazette. My work has also appeared on CTV, CBC, CBS and Al Jazeera English.
